News Breaks galore!!

News news news!!! Great news surfacing today folks. To start things off some updates on GTA:IV's character AI have been released:

-The crowds are extremely realistic: you'd see pedestrians buying newspapers at a kiosk, smokers are loitering on corners - some of them might even ask you for a lighter as you pass by.
- Taxis won't immediately stop in front of you when you whistle or hail one down. Sitting at the back seat gives you an interior view of the vehicle from the first-person. ("With the Digikreuz one selects a driving goal. With the A-key one jumps over the travel and is immediately at the goal. With X one says to the driver to drive faster with Y steps out one. The right analogue stick moves the camera.")
- The Jamaican weapons dealer, Little Jacob, must be coerced while going through your tasks. He's got a whole stash of fire power in his trunk and will do business once you establish a good relationship with him.
- For the first time ever, calendar days are going to be accounted for in the game; individual work days will also affect your gameplay.
- Protection from gun spray will vary depending on what type of material you hide behind.

PlayTV for PS3 Announced!

Sony has announced PlayTV which will bring DVR capabilities to the PS3 via usb. It is currently only for PAL territories, and features 2 DVB-T tuners. It can also quickly transcode recorded videos to a psp compatible format thanks to the cell processor. PlayTV also supports remote play so you can also stream your recorded videos to your psp anywhere in the world (as long as you leave your ps3 in remote play mode). Thanks to the dual tuners you can record a show and watch another (why not record two, we have tv's for a reason, and just about every modern tv has multiple inputs). Should be available in europe in early 2008.

Playstation Eye

A new device Sony is releasing very similar to the old Eye toy. "The PlayStation Eye, in essence, is a digital camera attachable to the PS3. It can recognize visual patterns, as exhibited with the game Eye of Judgement, and can sense movements and distance in a 3D space. That, according to Sony, gives it more potential than a Wiimote."

So it looks like Sony is building a Wii Remote killer...Here is the rest of the article from QJ on the matter:

Bioshock coming to PS3?

A recent article from QJ.net cought my eye. It contained part of Bioshocks PC demo .ini file, and inside the file PS3 was listed as well as Xbox 360.

Here is the original article:
By: Sally B.
Earlier rumors about BioShock's release for the PS3 have been quashed and dealt with a few months ago, but the interesting config.ini file found in the PC BioShock demo revealed a quite interesting bit of news. Check out this bit of code taken from PC BioShock demo's config.ini:

[Console]

Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings

StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit: If this is a positive number, then instead of using the fixed per-level limits, the StreamingDynamic resource will use as much memory as is available as long as the total memory allocated by the game is less than the specified number. In other words, StreamingDynamic will grow and shrink to fit to the available memory instead of being locked to a fixed budget StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit=500

You read that right, there's indeed "PS3" listed in the possible console specific settings. Is it because Irrational Games and 2K Games decided to release BioShock on Sony's PlayStation 3 after all? However, there's also a possibility that the PS3 bit was put in before it was determined that BioShock is going to be an exclusive title for the Xbox 360. There's so many speculations that can be drawn by that small bit of information, and it is certainly intriguing.

PS3 Failure Rate

A recent article from qj.net touches upon PS3's low failure rate.

ps3.qj.net:
"Striking while the iron's still hot? Two Sony execs have recently reiterated on the PlayStation 3's apparent reliability, in light of the mounting concern regarding the Xbox 360's three red lights of death.

The first comment came in from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) founder Chris Deering, who pegged the PS3's failure rate to be "around 0.2%" during the recently concluded Edinburgh Interactive Festival. It is unclear if he meant the rates in Europe alone or worldwide. It's also unclear as to which survey these numbers are based on.

On a related note, SCEA’s Dave Karraker commented regarding the recently concluded PS3 destruction test that was conducted over at PS3 Vault. Mr. Karraker states that he appreciated the crew's work. As a flashback, it will be noted that the guys over at the site (PS3 Vault) put one of their units through several tests of Mythbuster proportions, ranging from leaving the unit on continuously for over a hundred hours, to playing it in a sauna. It did not give way."

So as you can see the PS3 has a very low failure rate. Which must make some people more secure on dropping 500 greenbacks for the next gen machine with only 0.2% failure rate compared to Xbox 360's 33% failure rate.
